Kerala sees steep rise in new Covid cases in a week
Monday, 18 December 2023 Within a week, Covid-19 cases in Kerala increased 277%, reaching the highest number since May 15, 2023. Deaths are also rising. Experts warn that with the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities, cases may further increase due to the movement of people. The concern is amplified by the detection of a new Covid sub-variant, JN.1, with enhanced ability to evade human antibody response. To stay safe, especially the elderly and those with co-morbidities should avoid crowded indoor activities and wear masks. The ministry of health conducted mock drills to assess hospital preparedness.
