PM Modi hails Kuwait new Amir, hopes for boost in ties

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah for taking over as the Amir of Kuwait, saying he was confident that India-Kuwait relations would further strengthen in the coming years and the Indian community in Kuwait would continue to flourish. India had declared state mourning across the country on December 17 as a mark of respect for the new Amir's predecessor. "India and Kuwait maintained close relations under the leadership of the late Amir...," the government had said last week.
