Can’t support excise officers acting highhanded, says HC; directs probe by Addl CS of Maharashtra

The Bombay High Court has directed the State Additional Chief Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the role of officials responsible for the illegal seizure of goods at JNPT. The court also ordered the release of the seized ethanol and stated that the probe should include the role of private individuals involved in the seizure. The court expressed concern over the actions of the Excise officials, stating that they had acted illegally and damaged the business standing and reputation of the traders. The court emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry and appropriate actions against the officials if sufficient evidence is found.
