On convocation evening, governor removes officiating VC of Bengal varsity

IndiaTimes Saturday, 23 December 2023
Jadavpur University faced turmoil as Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose removed officiating vice-chancellor Buddhadeb Sau on the eve of the convocation. The vice-chancellor, defiant and considering the move unlawful, insisted on proceeding with the convocation despite a longstanding disagreement with Bose. The power struggle extended to control over top university appointments between Bose and the TMC government. The governor, also the chancellor of state universities, abruptly announced the decision, surprising many, and jeopardizing the convocation where over 5,000 students were set to receive degrees.
