MPhil not ‘recognised’ degree any more, UGC tells institutions

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has reiterated that the MPhil programme is no longer a recognized degree. UGC introduced reforms for PhD enrolment, including eligibility criteria for the test. The commission has cautioned against taking admission in MPhil programmes & stated that higher educational institutions are not allowed to offer MPhil programmes. Existing MPhil courses will not be affected, students will be allowed to complete them. MPhil degree was discontinued by the UGC in 2022.
