India in 2023 focused on acquiring new military platforms, weaponry to boost combat prowess
India firmed up defence procurement worth over Rs 3.50 lakh crore in 2023 to enhance its combat prowess and deal with security challenges. The military focused on expanding its military engagement with like-minded countries in response to China's attempts to become a regional hegemon. The Indian troops maintained an assertive approach in the border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh. The Defence Acquisition Council approved big-ticket acquisition projects, including the procurement of Tejas light combat aircraft and Prachand combat helicopters. The defence ministry also worked on making India a hub for defence manufacturing.
