Why strip the accused in thana lockups, HC asks Maharashtra
Bombay high court has asked the state government why accused are stripped in the lockup of police stations even as an inquiry has held four police officers attached to Tardeo police station responsible for illegally detaining a music teacher and making him strip naked in the lockup. "Why stripping is necessary of the accused (sic) when they are lodged in lockup," said Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Gauri Godse in a recent order. The teacher's wife moved HC with a habeas corpus petition to produce her husband.
