Tuesday, 2 January 2024
Stepping in to defuse the situation, the home ministry enlisted the support of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), and jointly appealed to truckers to end their strike. Truck drivers are now expected to be back on the roads from Wednesday, ending a potential crisis in transport of essential goods. βThe provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have not been implemented so far. We will consult AIMTC whenever we implement Section 106 (2) of the law (which deals with higher penalty in hit-and-run cases),β home secretary Ajay Bhalla said after a meeting with representatives of the lobby group representing transporters.
