Bullet train project gets 100% land five-and-a-half years after first notification
The government has completed 100% acquisition of land for the high-speed rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, after a lengthy process. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that 1,389.5 hectares of land have been acquired in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) has made progress in pier casting and girder launching, with the first trial run scheduled for August 2026. The government has maintained that the execution of the bullet train project has been impacted due to delay in land acquisition in Maharashtra and consequent delays in finalisation of contracts.
