Maharashtra body vows step against FB over manja ads
Friday, 12 January 2024 Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) informed the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Friday that it would initiate legal and criminal proceedings against Facebook and its owner, Meta, if it failed to remove advertisements for the sale of nylon manja from its page "Marketplace". MPCB's oral submission came after counsel for Facebook and Meta failed to reply on steps taken to curb the sale of the thread that has claimed many lives. Maharashtra has banned nylon manja, but clandestine sales continue due to lax policing.
A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of murder after the discovery of human remains in suitcases in Bristol, and, at a flat in west London. 34-year-old Yostin Andres Mosquera appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court earlier today. Police have named the two victims as 62-year-old Albert Alfonso and 71 year old Paul Longworth who lived together at a flat in Shepherds Bush. The suspect had been staying with them. Tragedy struck late last night on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, also known as the Samruddhi Mahamarg, when a horrific collision between two cars claimed the lives of six individuals and left four others injured. The accident occurred near Kadwanchi village in Jalna district, approximately 400 km from Mumbai. The crash involved a Swift Dzire entering the highway from the wrong side after refueling, which collided with an Ertiga traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai. The impact was so severe that the Ertiga was flung into the air, landing on the highway's barricade, with passengers thrown onto the road.
