NCP chief Sharad Pawar said on Saturday he would not attend the ceremony to consecrate Lord Ram's idol in the temple in Ayodhya on January 22, stressing that it had been organised keeping the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in mind. He criticised the BJP for focusing on less important issues and ignoring the real concerns of the country. "Issues the country is facing are unemployment, farmers' suicide, lack of price for agriculture products and inflation. But instead of addressing these problems, the government wants to shift the focus on non-important issues," the NCP founder said.
