Munawwar Rana, Urdu poet, dies

Eminent city-based writer and Urdu poet Munawwar Rana died due to multiple organ failure at SGPGI on Sunday night. Munawwar's only son Tabrez Rana confirmed his demise to TOI. The hospital is yet to issue a medical bulletin. Tabrez told TOI that Munawwar, who had not been keeping well for a few months, was to be airlifted for treatment to AIIMS-Delhi. Rana's son-in-law, Arshi, told TOI that five days ago, he had suffered a heart attack, following which he was shifted to SGPGI. He was in its critical care unit where he later developed multiple issues.
