3.6 lakh shops penalised since 2021 for selling tobacco near schools
Close to 3.6 lakh shops nationwide have faced action since March 2021 - ranging from challans to relocation - for selling cigarettes and tobacco within 100 metres of schools and educational institutions. Also as many as 1,057 FIRs have been registered under the Juvenile Justice Act for selling liquor, narcotics and psychotrpic drugs to children or engaging children in sale of such substances. Kerala has registered the maximum cases followed by Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
