ED-CBI-NIA team going to UK to hasten fugitives' extradition
Monday, 15 January 2024 A high-level team of CBI, Enforcement Directorate and National Investigation Agency is leaving soon for the UK to expedite extradition of India's most wanted fugitives, including defence dealer Sanjay Bhandari, diamond trader Nirav Modi and Kingfisher Airlines promoter Vijay Mallya. Extradition of Bhandari, Nirav Modi and Mallya is pending in the UK as all of them have appealed in higher courts against their deportation to India. The team is headed by a senior officer from foreign ministry.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended two suspects - Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Taha - in connection with Bengaluru's Rameswaram Cafe blast case on Friday. The two were nabbed near West Bengal's Kolkata. Mussavir Hussain Shazib has been identified as the alleged "mastermind" behind the low-intensity blast that occurred at a prominent eatery in Bengaluru on March 1. Shazib is accused of placing the improvised explosive device (IED) at the cafe. Additionally, Abdul Matheen Taha is implicated as a co-conspirator in the incident. Both Taha and Shazib hail from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, according to statements from the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
