The Sarv Adivasi Samaj calls for a Bastar Bandh on January 23 in protest of a child's killing in police firing in Bijapur and tree felling in Hasdeo forests. The Communist Party of India (Maoists) supports the bandh and extends it to Surguja. Maoists also boycott Ayodhya's Ram idol consecration, emphasizing environmental concerns.
