SC slams Gujarat cops, magistrate, say they need to be educated

Taking strong exception to Gujarat police seeking custody of a Surat-based businessman and a magistrate allowing his police remand despite the fact that it had granted anticipatory bail to him, the Supreme Court on Monday said that both the state police and the magistrate "needed to be educated" and also expressed concern over practice of lower court rejecting pre-arrest bail plea without going into the merit of a case.
