Manipur HC revokes directive to consider ST status for Meiteis

The Manipur High Court has made a significant change to its directive regarding the consideration of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei community. Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, while reviewing a petition filed by the Meitei Tribes Union, modified the directive issued by former acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan on March 27, 2023. The decision comes amidst ongoing ethnic violence in the state, and the Meitei Tribes Union had originally approached the High Court to include Meiteis in the ST list.
