In first such conviction, encounter specialist gets life for killing gangster

Based on compelling evidence from a ballistic expert, the Bombay High Court found former Mumbai police officer Pradeep Sharma guilty of leading an "illegal squad" involved in the fake encounter killing of alleged Chhota Rajan gang member Ramnarayan Gupta. Sharma has been sentenced to life imprisonment and must surrender within three weeks. This marks the first conviction of a police officer in an encounter case in Maharashtra.
