Can't give reservation based on religion: SC

The Supreme Court is hearing the Bengal government's challenge against a Calcutta High Court decision quashing OBC status for 77 communities, mainly Muslim. The state argued the reservation was based on backwardness, not religion, while Kapil Sibal emphasized the communities' backwardness despite their religious affiliation. The case is adjourned to January 7th.
