Centre proposes new rules to manage solid waste across the country with effect from October 1 next year

The Indian government has proposed new rules for solid waste management, effective October 1, 2025. These rules empower sanitation workers to penalize those not segregating waste and mandate waste segregation for large establishments. Gram panchayats will be responsible for preventing agricultural waste burning and filing annual reports on residue management.
