On Makar Sankranti, SUV & bikes as prizes at cockfights in Andhra
Monday, 13 January 2025 Cockfight organisers in Andhra Pradesh have upped the ante this Sankranti by offering high-value prizes like Mahindra Thar, Royal Enfield bullets, and home appliances. These lucrative rewards have attracted participants from major cities, aiming to enhance enthusiasm for the traditional sport while ensuring memorable experiences for contestants.
Millions of devout Hindus gathered at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam on Makar Sankranti to partake in the sacred Amrit Snan during Maha Kumbh. Vibrant processions, led by Naga sadhus and saints of 13 akharas, marked the spiritual spectacle with chants of "Har Har Gange" and "Har Har Mahadev." The Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani began the holy dips, symbolizing sin-cleansing and devotion. Organized crowds stretched over 8-10 km as 3-4 crore devotees are expected. Swami Kailashanand Giri hailed the rare significance of the occasion as a privilege even for gods.
