South Korea launches its first spy satellite after rival North Korea does the same
Friday, 1 December 2023
South Korea launched its first military spy satellite using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, joining North Korea in the race for space dominance. This launch comes after North Korea claimed to have successfully put its own spy satellite into orbit. South Korea plans to send five spy satellites into space by 2025. The satellite launch has heightened tensions between the rival Koreas, with North Korea asserting its sovereign right to launch spy satellites in response to perceived US hostilities.
