South Korea confirms first spy satellite in orbit
Saturday, 2 December 2023
South Korea confirms its first military spy satellite reaches orbit after successful SpaceX rocket launch, intensifying the space race on the Korean peninsula. The satellite, carried by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, was launched from the Vandenberg US Space Force Base in California. South Korea plans to launch four additional spy satellites by 2025. The South's satellite, capable of detecting small objects, enhances its surveillance capacity over North Korea. Last week, North Korea successfully launched its own spy satellite, prompting South Korea to demonstrate its capabilities.
