US warns Houthis to cease attacks on Red Sea vessels or face potential military action
Thursday, 4 January 2024 The US and its allies issued a final warning to Houthi rebels to stop attacking vessels in the Red Sea or face potential military action. The Houthis have carried out at least 23 attacks in response to the Israel-Hamas war. The US called on the United Nations Security Council to take action against the Houthis and warned their financier Iran about supporting the rebels. The attacks have targeted commercial shipping vessels transiting through the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The said that it will defend itself, its interests, partners, and international commerce.
