Uttarakhand: ITBP removes obstacles from artificial lake, rescue ops continue

Rescue ops continued in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli following the February 7 glacial disaster.

So far, rescuers have recovered at least 70 bodies while several others are still missing.

ITBP, SDRF continued to remove trees and boulders from the lake formed after glacier burst.

Experts have inspected the site, while a constant vigil is being maintained on the lake.

On Wednesday night, excavation work was carried out at the Tapovan tunnel in Chamoli.

Water was pumped out of the tunnel and excavation up to 180 meters was complete.

The devastating flash flood demolished a 13.2 MW hydel project along the river.

It caused extensive damage to NTPC's Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project along Dhauliganga.
