Village in West Medinipur faces acute water crisis, unemployment
Once a Maoist bastion, Boro Kalshibhanga village situated in the Jugalmahal area in West Medinipur district of West Bengal is facing acute water crisis and unemployment.
More than 400 families of Kurmi Mahato, the Other Backward Class (OBC) community residing here at Kalshi Bhanga have to trudge at least a kilometre to get drinking water.
During summer, the water crisis worsens.
Most women of the village work as potato pluckers and people for whom they work have now resorted to paying them wages in potatoes instead of cash.

A medical student in West Bengal has alleged improper and discriminatory questions during a viva examination. The student claims that, instead of focusing on academics, the examiner asked about caste background, asking, "Are you Brahmin?" and inquired about personal details like "Which cream do you apply?" The incident has sparked outrage, raising concerns about bias and unprofessional behaviour in academic settings. Authorities are being urged to investigate the matter and ensure fairness in the examination process.
