Uttarakhand: 8 killed in avalanche, 384 rescued; CM Rawat conducts aerial survey
Eight people were killed after they were caught in an avalanche in Uttarakhand.
The avalanche, reported in Niti valley in Chamoli, also left six critically injured.
Indian Army informed that as many as 384 people have been rescued so far.
Meanwhile, CM Tirath Singh Rawat conducted an aerial survey of the area.
Rawat said that NDRF had been deployed & the rescue operation was underway.
On Friday, the CM took to twitter & said that an alert had been issued in the area.
Rawat had also ordered to stop work in NTPC & other projects to avoid untoward incident.
Locals said the hgher reaches of Chamoli have been witnessing rain, snowfall for a few days.
In a similar mishap, 80 people died in February due to glacial burst at Chamoli's Joshimath.
