Counting of votes for three-tier Uttar Pradesh's Panchayat elections 2021 is underway.
Counting agents and party supporters thronged the counting centres in large numbers and defied social distancing norms. In order to maintain law and order in the area and disperse the crowd, police baton charged.
Supreme Court had strictly directed State Election Commission to ensure COVID guidelines are adhered.

In a devastating road accident today, at least 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Among the deceased were three women and one child, police reported. The double-decker bus, which was en route from Bihar’s Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early this morning. The force of the collision was immense, causing several passengers to be flung out of the bus, police stated.

The Shehbaz Sharif-led government in Pakistan has decided to ban the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the country's Information Minister announced on Monday. The PTI is Pakistan's largest opposition party.
