DOJ Files Lawsuit , Against Adobe.
The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit
against Adobe on June 17, TechCrunch reports.
The DOJ alleges that Adobe is deceptive because
it conceals early-termination fees and makes it difficult for customers to cancel subscriptions.
Adobe has harmed consumers by
enrolling them in its default, most
lucrative subscription plan without
clearly disclosing important plan terms, DOJ, via lawsuit.
The DOJ claims that Adobe pushes subscribers to choose its "annual paid monthly" plan and uses costly early-termination fees as a "powerful retention tool" to trap customers.
During enrollment, Adobe hides
material terms of its APM plan in fine
print and behind option textboxes and
hyperlinks, proving disclosures that are
designed to go unnoticed and that
most consumers never see, DOJ, via lawsuit.
Adobe then deters cancellations
by employing an onerous and
complicated cancellation process, DOJ, via lawsuit.
Adobe disagrees with the allegations.
Subscription services are convenient,
flexible and cost effective to allow
users to choose the plan that best fits
their needs, timeline and budget, Dana Rao, Adobe’s General Counsel and Chief Trust Officer, via statement.
Our priority is to always ensure our
customers have a positive experience. , Dana Rao, Adobe’s General Counsel and Chief Trust Officer, via statement.
We are transparent with the terms
and conditions of our subscription
agreements and have a simple
cancellation process, Dana Rao, Adobe’s General Counsel and Chief Trust Officer, via statement.
The U.S. government maintains that Adobe
has violated consumer protection laws and is
seeking "injunctive relief, civil penalties,
equitable monetary relief, as well as other relief.”

EPA's New Limits on PFAS , in Drinking Water Could Be , Upended by the Supreme Court.
'Newsweek' reports that the United States Supreme Court
is scheduled to hear a case against new water rules put
in place by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
'Newsweek' reports that the United States Supreme Court
is scheduled to hear a case against new water rules put
in place by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In April, new national limits were placed on per-
and polyfluoroalkyl substances in the nation's
drinking water, otherwise known as PFAS. .
Also known as "forever chemicals,"
PFAS have been linked to a number of
health concerns, including cancer.
According to the EPA, of the 66,000 public drinking water
systems impacted by the new limits, an estimated 6% to
10% will need to make updates to meet the new standards.
According to San Francisco, the EPA's new
"narrative" regulations fail to meet the Clean Water
Act's requirement to lay out clear restrictions.
The lawsuit headed to the Supreme Court accuses the EPA of setting vague rules without quantifiable standards.
Rather than specify pollutant limits
that tell the permitholder how much
they need to control their discharges
as required by the CWA, these
prohibitions effectively tell
permitholders nothing more than
not to cause 'too much' pollution, Lawyers representing San Francisco, via 'Newsweek'.
These generic water quality terms
expose San Francisco and numerous
permitholders nationwide to
enforcement actions while failing
to tell them how much they need
to limit or treat their discharges
to comply with the Act, Lawyers representing San Francisco, via 'Newsweek'.
We simply want to know in advance
what requirements apply to us, and
we want the EPA to fulfil its duty
under the Clean Water Act to
determine those requirements. , Lawyers representing San Francisco, via 'Newsweek'.
'Newsweek' points out that the Supreme Court has sided against
the EPA in the past, most recently in 2022 when it ruled
6-3 against the Biden administration's climate agenda. .

Tesla Recalls Vehicles , Over Faulty Seat Belt Warning System.
Over 125,000 Tesla vehicles are being recalled in the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on May 31.
The recall is due to a seat belt warning
system malfunction, NBC News reports. .
Some vehicles failed to flash
warning lights or make noise when a
driver didn't buckle up, the regulator said. .
The following vehicles
are affected by the recall:.
2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y. .
An over-the-air software update will be released by Tesla in June to fix the issue.
Tesla recalled another 200,000 vehicles in January over a software malfunction that could impede drivers' visibility when reversing.
Almost 4,000 Cybertrucks were also recalled in April over a faulty accelerator pedal pad.
Last month, auto safety regulators
launched an investigation to determine
whether Tesla's December recall of
over 2 million vehicles was adequate.
The recall was to implement new Autopilot safeguards following a string of crashes.
