Street sweeper gobsmacked after holiday gift to Portugal
Street sweeper Paul Spiers has said he was “gobsmacked” after he was gifted a holiday abroad by residents in Beckenham who had set up an online fundraiser.
On his trip to Portugal, he said, “no words can describe how grateful I am”.

Street sweeper Paul Spiers says he is “over the moon” after getting the go-ahead to be able to take a holiday to Portugal, funded by local residents in Beckenham, southeast London. Paul is so popular locals set up an online fundraiser to raise money to send him on a trip abroad for his birthday. But his bosses said he couldn't accept the gift because of the terms of his contract. Luckily a holiday company stepped in and created a competition only Paul could win. Report by Blairm. The first batch of US-made F-16 fighter jets has arrived in Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. The number of warplanes is “small,” sources told the outlet on condition of anonymity. Kiev has yet to comment on the reported delivery. The origin of the aircraft is not yet clear. Last year, a group of NATO states, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Sweden, formed the so-called ‘F-16 coalition’. Greece, the US, Bulgaria, and France later joined.
