German are set to vote for their next leader on Sunday in the countryโs snap federal election. The election is expected to feature a high voter turnout with incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz up against a considerable opposition from the CDU and far-right AfD parties.

A deadly knife attackrocked eastern France, leaving one civilian dead and several police officers injured. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident, calling it an "Islamist terror act." The attacker, a 37-year-old on a terror watchlist, reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the assault before being arrested. France's national anti-terror prosecutors (PNAT) have taken charge of the investigation. This attack comes just a day after a similar 'Islamist terrorist' stabbing incident in Germany.
