Govt announces money to bring London-style buses nationwide
The Government has announced how £1 billion in funding will be used to bring London-style buses to cities across the UK as part of a major Budget boost.
Transport Secretary Louise Haigh confirmed that £712 million will be allocated to local authorities to improve services, with an additional £243 million for bus operators.
Ms Haigh said that the investment aims to end the “complicated and inconsistent” funding models that have affected passengers for years.

The Government will back a third runway at Heathrow Airport as it looks to go “further and faster” on growth, the chancellor has announced. In a speech in Oxfordshire on growth, Rachel Reeves said the west London airport’s expansion is “badly needed” because “for decades its growth has been constrained”. Reeves stated that a third runway could increase potential GDP by 0.43% by 2050 and create more than 100,000 jobs. Heathrow’s plan to build a third runway received parliamentary approval in June 2018, but has been delayed by legal challenges and the coronavirus pandemic. Report by Faragt. Senior Tory MP Sir David Davis has said that "new medical evidence" analysed by a medical expert panel could provide a "completely alternative explanation" for the death of seven babies. This comes as retired medic Dr Shoo Lee, who co-authored a 1989 academic paper on air embolism in babies – which featured prominently in Lucy Letby’s 10-month trial, chaired a panel of 14 experts who compiled an “impartial evidence-based report”, which casts doubt on some of the medical evidence used in the trial.
