Alternative healer jailed over diabetic woman’s death
Alternative healer, Hongchi Xiao, 61, has been jailed for 10 years at Winchester Crown Court for the manslaughter of a type 1 diabetic woman who stopped taking insulin at his slapping therapy workshop.
Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, died at Cleeve House in Seend, Wiltshire, in October 2016 while taking part in the Paida Lajin therapy event, which sees patients being slapped or slapping themselves repeatedly.
Three members of Sara Sharif's family have been found guilty over the 10-year-old's death after years of horrific abuse. Her father Urfan Sharif, 42, and stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, were found guilty of her murder while her uncle Faisal Malik, 29, was convicted of causing or allowing her death following a trial at the Old Bailey. Former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg has been given a five-year non-harassment order at Jedburgh Sheriff Court. However, the judge has deferred sentencing of Hogg, 32, on a domestic abuse charge against his estranged wife until 9th January.
