The West Bengal assembly has passed the University Laws (Amendment) Bill 2023 which replaces the governor with the chief minister as the chancellor of state-aided universities. The Bill was opposed by the BJP and Governor CV Ananda Bose, who has had a contentious relationship with the TMC-ruled state government since criticism of the West Bengal panchayat polls. This is the second time the bill has been passed, with the previous version passed in 2022.
