Cannot regulate political blocs, says Election Commission on INDIA

IndiaTimes Monday, 30 October 2023
The Election Commission (EC) has stated that it does not have the legal authority to regulate political alliances in response to a petition challenging the use of the acronym INDIA by a coalition of opposition parties. The EC clarified that while it has the power to conduct elections and register political parties, political alliances are not recognized as regulated entities. The EC's response should not be seen as an expression of its stance on the legality of using the acronym INDIA.
