J&K Police becomes first police force in country to introduce GPS tracker anklets
Saturday, 4 November 2023 The Jammu and Kashmir Police has become the first police force in India to introduce GPS tracker anklets for monitoring terror accused out on bail. The wearable device is affixed around the ankle of the person being monitored and tracks their movement. This technology, already used in Western countries, helps de-congest prisons by allowing accused individuals to be monitored while on bail, parole, or house arrest. The introduction of the GPS tracker anklets followed an order from a Special NIA Court directing the police to use them on a terror accused.
