Congress' Adhir Ranjan says collegium to appoint CIC, IC ‘futile exercise’ as government has majority

IndiaTimes Monday, 6 November 2023
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has criticized the collegium responsible for appointing information commissioners and the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), calling it a "futile exercise." Chowdhury claims that since the government has a majority in the committee, it can appoint nominees according to its own preferences. He was also unavailable for a meeting to select the CIC and ICs, stating that he had requested a meeting on November 3 but was told that the Prime Minister and Home Minister were busy with the election campaign.
