82% rise in medical colleges since 2014, MBBS seats up by 112%: Government

The number of medical colleges in the country has increased by 82%, with MBBS seats rising by 112% since 2014, according to the Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar. Postgraduate medical seats have also risen by 127% in the same period. The construction of 157 medical colleges has been approved, 108 of which are functional, under a centrally sponsored scheme. The funding for the construction of these colleges is shared between the Centre and state governments, with different ratios for northeastern states and other states.
