IndiaTimes Monday, 11 December 2023
The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to conduct elections in Jammu & Kashmir by September 30, 2024. The court upheld the Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370, which bestowed special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The court also emphasized the central government's commitment to restoring the statehood of Jammu & Kashmir. The Supreme Court stated that Article 370 was temporary and the President's power to revoke it still exists. PM Modi hailed the verdict as historic and constitutionally upholding the decision taken by the Parliament of India.
