At 14.5k, fog-related accident toll up 9% in 2022: Govt data
Tuesday, 26 December 2023 Road deaths due to foggy and misty conditions increased by 9% in 2021, reaching 14,583 fatalities. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of fatalities (3,920), followed by Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Among cities, Chennai had the most deaths (135), followed by Delhi. Road safety experts highlight the importance of sticking to lanes, avoiding overtaking, and driving on the left side in the foggy conditions. They also recommend turning on parking and hazard lights.

In a devastating road accident today, at least 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Among the deceased were three women and one child, police reported. The double-decker bus, which was en route from Bihar’s Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early this morning. The force of the collision was immense, causing several passengers to be flung out of the bus, police stated.
