Advisory to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana against cockfights ahead of Makar Sankranti

While illegal cockfighting is not so common in Maharashtra, such cockfights are often observed in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, where betting on the participating cocks is a big business, as was reported in TOI recently. Now, based on complaints of animal rights group, Peta India, about the forceful feeding of steroids to poultry birds before a fight round, the AWBI has issued an advisory to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to take action against such cockfights, which are more frequent during Makar Sankranti festival.
