Accused of delay, EC clears air on turnout data drill
Wednesday, 1 May 2024 The overall voter turnout data for the first two phases of Lok Sabha polls, which the Election Commission officially released on Tuesday, is identical to the data collated from constituency-wise polling figures on the ECβs voter turnout app on the evenings of April 20 for Phase 1 and April 27 for Phase 2, as per EC sources.
The upcoming delimitation exercise in India has ignited a fierce debate between the central government and southern states. The process, which involves redrawing Lok Sabha and state assembly constituencies based on population, could significantly impact the political representation of states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. With northern states experiencing higher population growth, delimitation may shift parliamentary seats in their favor, potentially reducing the Southβs influence. Leaders like MK Stalin and Siddaramaiah are rallying against the move, calling it an unfair punishment for states that effectively controlled population growth.
