Punjab extends night curfew timings in worst-affected districts
Amid increasing COVID-19 cases in Punjab, night curfew has been extended in nine worst-hit districts by two hours daily, by advancing it from 9 pm onwards.
Night curfew will now be in place from 9pm to 5am, instead of 11pm to 5am in districts of Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Ropar.
All these districts are reporting spike in daily cases.
On March 19, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh extended the night curfew in these districts and also clarified that if required, he would go for more stringent measures to limit its spread in the days to come.

Khalistani leader Narain Singh Chaura allegedly attempted to assassinate senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Chaura, associated with the now-defunct Khalistan National Army, fired a shot but missed the Z-plus security-protected former Punjab deputy chief minister. The shocking incident unfolded during Badal’s “punishment” guard duty mandated by the Akal Takht. Chaura, who has a history of militancy and criminal allegations, was overpowered and arrested immediately. This alarming event has raised serious questions about security within religious and political spaces in Punjab.
