The Baroness Michelle Mone PPE scandal takes a new twist

Michelle Mone, the Conservative peer and Ultimo Bra tycoon has admitted to misleading the media about her links to PPE Medpro – a company led by her husband Douglas Barrowman, and which supplied personal protective equipment to the National Health Service during the Covid pandemic.

PPE Medpro was first awarded contracts worth more than £200m in the summer of 2020.

However, it later emerged the contracts were awarded after Baroness Mone had recommended the company to the then Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove.

The National Crime Agency launched an investigation into the company in April 2022 for suspected criminal offences relating to the procurement of PPE contracts.

Government unconvinced by Starmer’s ‘16th relaunch’

Conservative Party chairman Richard Holden downplayed Labour’s key election campaign as being “Keir Starmer’s sixteenth relaunch in a few months.” Responding to Sir Keir Starmer’s speech, in which the Labour leader unveiled a pledge card with six “first steps” his party would take if it were to win power, Holden described Starmer as a “serial promise-breaker who doesn’t have the courage or conviction to stick to a single pledge he has ever made.” Report by Covellm. Starmer channels Blair & Miliband to launch election pledges

Sir Keir Starmer has unveiled a pledge card with six "first steps" the Labour Party would take if it were to form a government after the next general election. The steps include measures to invest in the NHS, education and policing, to set up a new national energy company and an elite border force, and to promote economic stability. The move, unveiled during a campaign speech in Essex, is reminiscent of Tony Blair’s five pledges ahead of Labour’s landslide victory in 1997, and less favourably of Ed Miliband’s promises carved into stone in 2015. The health secretary has responded to the findings in the birth trauma report, which found good care is “the exception rather than the rule”. I want to shine a light on all of this and with this report, but also with my own personal commitment and I have prioritised women's health and maternity services as one of the priorities of this government," she said. Asylum seeker sentenced to life for revenge terror killing

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre.
