A Milan court has ruled in favor of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ordering journalist Giulia Cortese to pay €5,000 in damages for an online insult about Meloni's height. The court deemed Cortese's comments on X (formerly Twitter) as "defamatory" and "body-shaming." This ruling comes after an October 2021 incident where Cortese posted a mocked-up photo of Meloni with fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the background. Despite the judge ruling that the Mussolini post did not violate the law, the court supported Meloni regarding the height insult. Cortese, who has also been fined an additional €1,200 (suspended), claims that Italy's government has issues with freedom of expression. This case highlights ongoing tensions between the government and the media, with Italy dropping in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index. Learn more about the case and its implications for journalistic freedom in Italy.

France faces a political turnaround with no party winning an outright majority in the second round of the parliamentary election. The right-wing National Rally party (RN), linked to Marine Le Pen, finished third with 143 seats, while the New Popular Front (NFP) and President Macron’s Ensemble coalition also failed to secure a majority. With an estimated turnout of 67.1%, the highest since 1997, the election has left the country without a clear candidate for prime minister. President Macron is set to analyze the results before making any further decisions, and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced his resignation following the exit poll results. Dive into this video for an in-depth analysis of the election results and their implications for France's political future.

France's snap parliamentary elections have sparked violent protests as exit polls show a left-wing coalition leading, surpassing Marine Le Pen's far-right party. No alliance secured a majority, plunging the country into political turmoil. President Macron's centrists trail in third place, potentially forcing him to work with an opposition prime minister. Rioting erupted in Paris, with 30,000 riot police deployed nationwide. The results signal a major setback for Macron and an uncertain future for French politics.
