Molecular tests for tuberculosis (TB) are set to replace sputum microscopy as the initial test for detection, following the World Health Organization's recommendation. The change is already happening worldwide, including in India where the state of Goa has become the first to fully adopt molecular testing. However, in Maharashtra, the change is still far off due to a shortage of cartridges needed for the machines. In order to switch to complete molecular testing, the talks are underway.
