Bihar govt issues gazette notifications for raising quota from 50 to 65 per cent

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 21 November 2023
The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has raised the quota for deprived castes from 50% to 65% in state government jobs and educational institutions. The bills seeking this increase were recently cleared by the state legislature. The new quota includes a hike for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, extremely backward castes, and other backward classes. The total quantum of reservation will now be 75% in the state, including the existing 10% quota for economically weaker sections. The Governor's assent was received shortly after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed hope for its approval.
